ValleyBike Expands Service to Westfield, MA, 2022

ValleyBike, an electric bikeshare program, is expanding operations to the community of Westfield, MA. Westfield will have two docking stations near Westfield State University and the Pioneer Valley Transit Authority Olver Transit Pavilion. ValleyBike also operates in the nearby communities of Amherst, Chicopee, Easthampton, Holyoke, Northampton, South Hadley, Springfield, and West Springfield. Bewegen is the operations vendor for this service. Customers can borrow e-bikes from ValleyBike at the following rates:

• $21.25 for a monthly membership;
• $95.62 for an annual membership that allows for rides of up to 60 minutes;
• $85 for an annual membership that allows for rides of up to 45 minutes;
• $6.38 for a two-hour rental;
• $2.13 for single rides of up to 30 minutes;
• $63.75 for an annual student membership that allows for rides of up to 45 minutes; and
• $10.63 for an annual membership for specific low-income individuals.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is funding this expansion with a $177,888 grant from the Shared Streets and Spaces Program. ValleyBike has grown considerably as a rural bikeshare service. This expansion indicates that bikeshare is a viable service for users in rural Massachusetts.
