The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA), which serves the Cleveland metropolitan area, is partnering with ridehailing and transportation technology company SHARE Mobility and local businesses on a pilot project to help workers use public transportation to get to their jobs. The service will transport workers in two suburban areas from a GCRTA station to their workplaces, then return them to the station at the end of their shifts. Rides are shared and can be scheduled in advance, and route frequency will be based on employer schedules.
GCRTA recognized that these destinations were major job hubs, but were lacking in transportation options. The first-/last-mile problem is often a major obstacle for commuters, and this partnership will help make GCRTA service a more viable transportation option, especially as the agency works on getting ridership back to pre-COVID levels.
