On September 27, 2023, the Shared-Use Mobility Center (SUMC) hosted a webinar to present a new guidebook for innovative mobility projects, “Principles to Plan, Design, & Implement Innovative Mobility Projects,” share the process of developing the resource, and discuss how practitioners can use it to inform planning processes and navigate challenges associated with implementing various mobility projects.
This webinar is a product of the Mobility Innovation Collaborative program, a partnership between the Shared-Use Mobility Center and the Federal Transit Administration. The MIC program provides a comprehensive suite of technical assistance resources, promotes knowledge sharing activities, and captures stories and lessons learned from nearly 50 innovative mobility projects across the United States.

This guidebook is the result of an initiative through the Mobility Innovation Collaborative (MIC) program. Through the MIC, SUMC partners with the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) to support transit and mobility innovation through pilot projects, applied research, new technologies, and forward-looking partnerships.
For an 18-month period beginning in Spring 2022, SUMC conducted research within the mobility sector to gain insights into what inspires and poses challenges to people demonstrating innovative transportation projects. Drawing from knowledge gained through our industry-wide research, FTA technical assistance work, expert interviews, and workshops, we have crafted a guidebook to support organizations as they strategize, shape, and pioneer mobility pilot projects.
SUMC is grateful to the Federal Transit Administration Office of Research and Innovation for the support that made this work possible.
SUMC also thanks all the survey respondents, workshop participants, and mobility innovators who informed this guidebook and inspired us.
Content and conclusions of this report are solely those of SUMC.
