Per-Mile-Driven Road Tax for Autonomous Vehicles, Tennessee, 2016

This bill establishes a program for certification of autonomous vehicles by the Tennessee Department of Safety (DOS) before any testing, operation or sale. The bill also imposes a per-mile-driven tax for each autonomous vehicle to cover DOS administrative costs. It also provides a definition for automated driving systems and other terminology to identify autonomous vehicle driving scenarios.
