The Crawford Area Transportation Authority (CATA), the public transit provider for Crawford and Venango Counties in northwestern Pennsylvania, has launched CATA GO, a new microtransit service in the city of Titusville. CATA GO replaces two underperforming fixed-route bus routes in the area, and offers more convenient and faster service. The microtransit service uses three ADA-accessible vans which riders can book using a mobile app or by contacting CATA’s call center. CATA GO operates 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM every weekday, and costs $1.50 per trip, with seniors and children under 6 able to ride for free.
In some areas, fixed-route service may not fully meet the needs of the community due to geographic factors, large headways, or other barriers. In these places where fixed-route service is underperforming or otherwise difficult to implement, microtransit can serve as a suitable replacement. Agencies around the country are launching microtransit pilots to improve transportation access for these communities, often complementing their other fixed-route services. With the success of the initial rollout of CATA GO, CATA hopes to expand the service to other areas in the region.
