MARTA Pilots Microtransit Service, Atlanta, GA 2022

West Atlanta, Belvedere, and the Gillem Logistics Center are connecting customers in transit-sparse locations to MARTAs’ fixed-route services. Rides on MARTA Reach cost $2.50, the same as a standard fare on MARTA, with transfers included. Customers can request their rides through an app and share their rides with other people with similar origins and destinations. MARTA Reach operates between 6 AM and 7 PM, Monday through Friday.

MARTA is testing this service to see if a more extensive first-/last-mile microtransit service is viable. The transit agency is partially funding MARTA Reach with a $1 million grant from the National Science Foundation’s Civic Innovation Challenge. Ridership data and feedback can play an essential role in informing the future of MARTA Reach, whether as a commuter-focused or broader-focusing microtransit service.
