Summary
With a stated purpose of “improving housing affordability and neighborhood livability,” the City of Seattle passed a suite of updates to their parking codes, as summarized in the attached document. Some of the updates include:
Reducing parking minimums in low-income, institutional, and frequent service areas. Eliminate exceptions for parking maximums in certain areas, including Downtown
Allowing “flexible use parking,” which allows multi-unit residential, commercial, and industrial uses–as well as mixed-use development off-street parking in light rail station areas–to share parking. Shared facilities may be used as Park-and-Ride facilities
Unbundle parking space rental from larger multi-unit residential developments
