The first autonomous vehicle policy in the U.S., Nevada’s law regulates and authorizes the operation of autonomous vehicles in the state. The legislation includes provisions on driver’s license endorsement, approval by the Department of Transportation, and rules for vehicle insurance, testing, and safety standards. It is stated in the bill that “a person is not required to actively drive an autonomous vehicle.” The bill also defines an autonomous vehicle as:
“a motor vehicle that uses artificial intelligence, sensors and global positioning system coordinates to drive itself without the active intervention of a human operator.”
