Sun Shuttle West Launches in Hollywood, FL, 2023

The City of Hollywood, FL has partnered with Circuit to pilot the Sun Shuttle West, a microtransit service in the city’s western area. Circuit already operates a city-supported microtransit service called the Sun Shuttle in Hollywood’s downtown and beach areas. With Sun Shuttle West, customers can request a shared point-to-point ride anywhere within a designated service area using a smartphone app or by calling a phone number. Single rides cost $2, and as a promotion, a customer’s first three rides are fare-free if they redeem a promotion code. The vehicles in Sun Shuttle West are electric and can fit up to twelve passengers. During the pilot period, Sun Shuttle West operates from 2 PM to 6 PM, Monday through Saturday.

The City’s decision to expand microtransit to a new area of Hollywood indicates that microtransit is meeting a community need. While the pilot is short with limited operating hours, both the City of Hollywood and Circuit can use the process to evaluate whether microtransit is a viable mobility solution for areas outside of its downtown and beach areas.
