The City of Laguna Beach and Uber are partnering to provide reduced-cost rides for senior (55 years of age or older), disabled, and low-income residents. This pilot program is Uber’s first partnership with a U.S. city, and will last 6 months, starting this June. Under this program, passengers will receive free Uber rides the first two months and subsidized rides for the remainder of the pilot, with the city reimbursing half the cost of the ride (up to $5 for rides within Laguna Beach and up to $8 for rides outside the city) during the later period. Low-income passengers will only be charged $1 per trip. Service will be available throughout and up to 15 miles outside the city.
Contributed through a partnership between the Shared-Use Mobility Center, ITS America and the Federal Transit Administration’s Mobility on Demand Program.
