In 2010 the city of Vancouver established a plan to become the “greenest city in the world” by 2020. This plan includes many strategies to lower carbon emissions and create green jobs, including embracing the sharing economy. The plan calls for increased car-share and bike-share programs as well as the adoption of electric vehicles in the city’s fleet.
Additionally, in 2016 the City Council passed a motion to become a 100% renewable energy city by 2050. This goal will rely on new innovative partnerships and policy decisions, such as the Centre of Excellence for Zero Emission Buildings, which was created to ensure that all new buildings built in Vancouver will be emission-free by 2025.
