The Yolo Transportation District (YoloTD) has announced plans to launch a point-to-point microtransit service called BeeLine in August 2023. With this service, customers can request shared rides in real-time across much of the Woodland city limits. YoloTD expects to operate a maximum of four vehicles during peak hours. YoloTD plans to run BeeLine from 7 AM to 7 PM, Monday through Thursday, 7 AM to 11 PM on Fridays, 9 AM to 11 PM on Saturdays, and 8 AM to 7 PM on Sundays. On BeeLine, a standard single-ride fare is $3, with discounts available to seniors and youth. YoloTD is procuring RideCo as its booking and routing technology vendor, enabling customers to book their rides through a smartphone app. Transdev will serve as the operations vendor for BeeLine.
YoloTD has offered a separate microtransit service, called YOUR Ride, in the communities of Knights Landing, Woodland, Winters, and El Rio Villa. Unlike BeeLine, customers must request their rides on YOUR Ride by calling a central helpline. YoloTD’s decision to expand its microtransit services through an app-enabled BeeLine affirms the agency’s recognition that on-demand transit has served the community well. Smartphone applications have played a significant role in the reintroduction and expansion of microtransit across the United States, and BeeLine appears to be part of that trend.
