Lime Seeks to Provide New Adaptive Vehicles, New York, New York, 2021

Lime is looking to provide a variety of new accessible vehicles for New York City’s micromobility pilot. Since late 2019, Lime has piloted accessible vehicles for people with disabilities in cities like Oakland, San Francisco, and Chicago. In these programs, customers have been able to request the delivery of adaptive e-scooters  to their home for a 24-hour period for a $5 refundable deposit. The vehicles available have included a three-wheel stand-up scooter, a three-wheel sit-down scooter, and a two-wheel sit-down scooter.

Lime is proposing a variety of new adaptive vehicles in its hopeful participation in New York City’s pilot on top of its current fleet of vehicles. These new designs include a single-person tricycle with a shopping basket, a two-person tricycle with a shopping basket, a motorized attachment for wheelchairs, and a single-person three-wheel handcycle.

If this pilot occurs, this will be Lime’s largest accessible micromobility pilot. As micromobility initiatives increase across the United States and throughout the world, it will be important to see how local governments and technology companies partner to also address issues related to paratransit and accessibility.
