Non-Profit Assumes New Operating Role for Bikeshare System, Eugene, OR, 2021

Cascadia Mobility, a new subsidiary of Forth, a shared-mobility non-profit, has been selected to be the new operator for PeaceHealth Rides, the bikeshare system in Eugene, Oregon. The non-profit organization formed after receiving start-up funding from the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT). Beyond operating PeaceHealth Rides, Cascadia Mobility is largely expected to play a role in starting new shared mobility programs across Oregon.

While there is much to be seen in Cascadia Mobility’s role as a steward for PeaceHealth Rides, its role as a non-profit bikeshare operator is unique and can potentially serve as a model for shared mobility programs across the United States. Cascadia Mobility’s funding through ODOT is part of a government-sponsored strategy to promote shared mobility across the state, particularly in communities smaller than Portland and Eugene. It will be important to observe how bikeshare and shared-mobility programs will evolve overtime with the introduction of this new non-profit in Oregon’s transportation scene.
