Spin, a micromobility company, is now operating throughout the City of Fort Collins and Colorado State University (CSU). In the Fort Collins area, Spin is providing a fleet of 200 e-bikes and 500 e-scooters to community members. Once the academic year begins, an additional 400 vehicles will become available. People in Fort Collins can borrow any of Spins’ vehicles at a standard rate of $1 plus $.30 per minute through a smartphone app. Low-income residents can borrow these vehicles at half the cost through the Spin Access program. While all vehicles are dockless, they will often be located near Transfort bus stops. People with disabilities and seniors can request to use adaptive bicycles, like tricycles, recumbent tricycles, and hand bicycles, from Spin at no cost. In Fort Collins, Spin will operate at all times except between 1 AM and 3 AM.
Fort Collins and CSU are entering into this partnership after hosting previous micromobility programs with Bird and Zagster. This new partnership is seen as an opportunity to improve first- and last-mile connections across the city. As Spin becomes more established in Fort Collins, it will be important to evaluate how micromobility impacts the city’s transportation landscape.
