Blackfeet Transit has launched a new point-to-point mobility on-demand (MOD) service. Blackfeet Transit is the transit agency for the Blackfeet Nation. In this service, customers can request shared rides by using the Blackfeet Transit app or calling a dispatch line. Via, a transportation technology company, is Blackfeet Transit’s booking and routing partner for this MOD service.
This service is available to customers between 8 AM and 4:30 PM during the work week. Customers can use this service to transport themselves between communities like Browning, Kalispell, Cut Bank, Shelby, and Great Falls in northern Montana. A standard adult fare is $1, with fare-free rides available to seniors, people with disabilities, and children under the age of 17. Currently, fares must be paid in cash on board the microtransit vehicle. Blackfeet Transit hopes to make credit or debit card payment options available soon.
A majority of Blackfeet Transits’ customers are seniors and people with disabilities. As a tribal transit agency, Blackfeet Transit’s partnership with Via can help customers more conveniently plan for trips to important destinations, like medical facilities and grocery stores, across a rural region.
