Southeast Vermont Transit (SEVT) is piloting a fare-free microtransit called MicroMOO in the community of Windsor. MicroMOO allows customers to take shared curb-to-curb rides in a van from 6 AM to 6 PM, Monday through Friday. MicroMOO’s service area includes the Windsor town limits and a highway up to a rest stop just north. Customers can book their rides through calling the SEVT office, using an online portal, or the QRyde for Riders smartphone app. QRyde serves as the booking and routing technology vendor for MicroMOO. The MicroMOO vehicle can carry up to eight riders at a time and is expected to pick up passengers within 30 minutes of their ride request.
SEVT supports the MicroMOO service with a $30,000 Mobility and Transportation Innovations (MTI) grant from the Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans). VTrans is using this relatively new grant to support other microtransit projects in four other communities across the state. As a pilot, MicroMOO can demonstrate whether or not microtransit is a viable mobility service in this small community.
