The Chicago free-floating carsharing pilot project is scheduled from March 1, 2018 to December 31, 2018, and covers a pilot area encompassing the denser, contiguous areas of the city. The carsharing operators will pay a nominal parking meter fee ($0.35 for up to 120 minutes) for metered parking, and are allowed in residential parking permit zones for an annual fee of $75 per vehicle. The city clerk is allowed to issue up to 500 permits. The operators must report utilization and location data (including proximity to transit), and the vehicles must meet low emission vehicle standards.
