The City of Denver launched a pilot program in which it offers schoolchildren aged 12-18 free transit fare via their mobile app over the summer. Drawing on $350,000 in funds from the Office of Children’s Affairs, Denver Parks and Recreation and the Department of Public Works the program will provide monthly or day passes to up to 5000 youth.
The program currently offers a number of Denver students a My Denver transit pass, though the pilot program will potentially expand the number.
To participate in the On My Way program, youths must have a My Denver card, download the RTD app on a smartphone, and fill out a short survey. The mayor’s office also said teens who wish to use the program, but don’t have a smartphone, can request a smart card from the city.
The RTD and the City will be collecting usage data to shape the program.
