This guide is intended to help planners and decision makers determine whether public bicycle sharing is viable in their community and, if so, how to design, implement, and operate a successful system. The material presented in this guide is drawn primarily from recent Eurompean experiences, given the absence of relevant North American experience. Canadian communities are generally quite different in terms of land use and transporation patterns from their European counterparts, information from Europe is assessed in terms of relevance to the Canadian context, where appropriate.
