Two new electric buses have been added to La Crosse, Wisconsin’s Municipal Transit Utility (MTU) fleet. The zero-emission buses will provide smoother, quieter, and more comfortable rides for passengers, and have lower upkeep costs than the city’s diesel buses. MTU partnered with Xcel Energy for budgeting expertise, and Proterra for the development of the bus design.
The addition of zero-emission buses is a step forward in more sustainable transportation in the city, and can be a model for other communities looking to electrify their fleets. The city plans to add more zero-emission buses in the future as more diesel buses reach the end of their service lives. Eventually, the city aims for a completely electric fleet.
