Austin Energy, a publicly-owned utility, is doubling its rebates to customers who purchase electric bicycles. Individual purchasers can qualify for the following rebates based on the price of the e-bike:
Fleet purchasers can receive more significant rebates for purchasing between 5 and 25 bicycles:
Low-income customers are also eligible for more significant rebates for individual e-bike purchases. The Austin Transportation Department partnered with Austin Energy to provide the following rebates to customers who participate in the utility provider’s Customer Assistance Program:
Customers can apply to receive their rebate check through Austin Energy’s website. To be eligible for the rebate, customers must purchase their e-bikes from one of 26 pre-approved local e-bike dealerships.
This increased rebate program resulted from the Austin City Council passing a resolution in June 2022. This resolution called for creating such a program in response to climate change and the Austin Strategic Mobility Plan’s goal of a 50% sustainable mode share by 2039. Hopefully, this rebate program can meaningfully encourage a significant level of Austin residents to use e-bikes and other modes of shared mobility more.
