City Expands On-Demand Transit Pilot Program, Lehigh Acres, FL, 2023

LeeTran, the transit service operating in Lee County, Florida, expanded its ULTRA On-Demand Transit pilot program to the Lehigh Acres area. LeeTran launched the ULTRA on-demand program in 2022 in the Bonita Springs area, and has been in the process of expanding to Lehigh Acres with help from a grant awarded by the Florida Department of Transportation. LeeTran will continue providing Lehigh Acres with fixed-route and paratransit services, and ULTRA On-Demand service will integrate with these existing services by offering first-/last-mile connectivity, allowing passengers to access destinations not easily accessible otherwise. 

ULTRA On-Demand is available seven days a week, from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and costs $1.50 per ride. The service uses Uber as a technology partner, and passengers can use either the Uber app or the LeeTran call center to request a ride. Microtransit pilots like ULTRA On-Demand can expand transportation access, create better first- and last-mile connectivity, and offer more flexibility for passengers than fixed-route transportation.
