Pasadena Water and Power (PWP) has launched an e-bike rebate program for residents. Customers who purchase a new Class 1, Class 2, or Class 3 e-bike at a shop inside Pasadena can file for a $500 reimbursement. People who buy a cargo e-bike can receive an additional $250 for their rebate. Customers participating in PWP’s income-qualified bill assistance program can also receive a $250 bonus as part of their rebate. Participants receive their reimbursement after submitting a form through their PWP account online. PWP mails a check to applicants six to eight weeks after submission. To obtain the rebate, receipts and reimbursement documents must be submitted within 180 days of the e-bike purchase. Customers can receive up to two rebates per PWP residential electric account. A single rebate can not exceed the retail price of the bicycle.
Pasadena is joining an expanding list of cities and states offering rebates or vouchers for purchases of electric bikes. Many peer programs are offering these incentives to people on a lottery basis. Unlike these other programs, Pasadena Water and Power offers these incentives to all residential customers. As e-bike incentive programs continue to grow across the United States, different programs will provide other models for administering these benefits to community members.
