5 minutes Date Launched: Dec 12, 2022
The City of Glendale is launching Glendale OnBoard, a citywide microtransit service. This service allows customers to request shared curb-to-curb rides anywhere within Glendales’ city limits. During the work week, Glendale OnBoard operates from 7 AM to 6 PM, and customers can book rides in real-time. For weekends and holidays, the microtransit service runs from 7 AM to 5 PM, and customers must request their rides in advance. Glendale OnBoard customers can book their rides through a smartphone app or by calling a central phone line. A standard one-way fare costs $5, with discounts available to people with disabilities, ADA riders, seniors, and people ages 13 and under. Customers can pay their fares through the Glendale OnBoard app or with exact cash on the vehicle. All vehicles are wheelchair accessible and have bike racks. Via serves as the booking and routing technology vendor for this service.
Glendale OnBoard’s start in operations coincides with the phasing out of Glendale’s Dial-A-Ride service. New booking and routing technologies have enabled many municipalities and transit agencies to offer microtransit as an option more convenient than its legacy services. The City of Glendale hopes that Glendale OnBoard can serve all customers, especially paratransit users, more efficiently.
