Shared Mobility Pilot and Study: Scooters, Charlotte, North Carolina, 2018

The Charlotte Shared Mobility pilot includes both dockless bikes and scooters.

E-Scooter Share in Charlotte timeline:

• May 2018: E-scooter share is permitted in Charlotte under the rules of a pilot program that also includes dockless bike share.
• November 2018: City staff publish a draft Shared Mobility E-Scooter Plan to support City Council conversations regarding permanent rules for e-scooters. You can review the draft plan here.
• January 2019: The City establishes permanent r​ules and a permitting program for the use of e-scooters.​

The micromobility homepage leads to clearinghouse pages for both bikesharing and scootersharing that includes the requirements for operators and users. The program models itself on both Austin, Texas and Washington, DC programs.
