Shift Bike Launches in Avon, EagleVail, and Vail, CO, 2022

The EagleVail Metro District and the towns of Avon and Vail are partnering with Drop Mobility to launch Shift Bike, an electric bikeshare program. Shift Bike offers users an initial fleet of 90 e-bikes and 20 hub stations across these three towns. All bicycles have pedal-assist features that allow the bicycles to move up to 16 miles per hour. Customers can borrow the bikes using a smartphone app and can pay using one of the following rates:

1. Pay as You Go: $3 for the first 30 minutes of a single rental plus $0.40 per minute beyond 30 minutes.
2. Monthly Membership: $25 per month and allows 60 minutes of use per day. Beyond 1 hour in a single day, customers must pay an additional $0.15 per minute. Members must reside in Eagle County.
3. Season Membership: $100 per season and also allows 60 minutes of use per day. Beyond 1 hour in a single day, customers must pay an additional $0.15 per minute. Members must reside in Eagle County.
4. Equity Membership: Allowed for customers who submit proof of financial hardship, such as enrollment in Medicaid, SNAP (ie. food stamps), or unemployment insurance. $25 per month and allows 60 minutes of use per day. Beyond 1 hour in a single day, customers must pay an additional $0.15 per minute.

This pricing structure is designed to encourage short trips. On the Shift Bike website, customers can also find information on purchasing and renting bicycles from other vendors across EagleVail, Avon, and Vail in case one is more interested in longer trips. Shift Bike offers residents and visitors a new environmentally friendly mode of transportation. Hopefully, Shift Bike can meaningfully increase the use of bicycles and other forms of micromobility and shared mobility across the three towns and Eagle County.
