5 minutes Date Launched: Jul 1, 2022
This Machine, a non-profit bikeshare system in Tulsa, is expanding its service to Broken Arrow, a nearby suburb. Broken Arrow’s system will operate separately from the Tulsa bikeshare system, with an initial fleet of 40 electric pedal-assist bicycles and ten rental stations in the City’s Rose District (a two-square-mile area). In 2023, This Machine will expand to Broken Arrow’s New Orleans Square neighborhood, also two square miles in size, with an additional 40 e-bikes. Customers can use an app to locate and pay for the bicycles. Rentals cost $2 for the first ten minutes plus an additional $0.15 per minute beyond that time. A day pass, monthly pass, and annual pass cost $8, $20, and $125, respectively. This Machine contracts with Drop Mobility to support the operations of the bikeshare system.
Bikeshare can be helpful for short trips, first and last miles on longer trips, and bolstering commerce in suburban and rural areas. As This Machine becomes more established in Broken Arrow, ridership will hopefully increase in a way that enriches the suburb’s transportation network.
