VIA Metropolitan Transit Launches New Integrated Transit Application in Collaboration with Local Bikeshare System, San Antonio, TX, 2022

VIA Metropolitan Transit has partnered with San Antonio BCycle, a bikeshare service, to launch a new integrated transit application that allows users to book a bus or bike trip in one place. Previously, users had to download separate applications and create different accounts to access and pay for these mobility services. With this integrated application combining services, travelers within San Antonio can now plan their trip, purchase or store a VIA pass, and unlock a BCycle bike in a few moments. This new integrated experience is offered through Transit, a Mobility as a service (MaaS) application that provides real-time transit information intended to help users navigate their transportation journeys. 

Many San Antonio residents already use the Transit app when navigating the region’s transportation network, thanks to the previous mobile ticketing partnership between VIA and Transit. In August 2021, VIA launched fare payment in Transit, enabling travelers to purchase VIA fares directly from the app. With many VIA riders dedicated users of the Transit App, the option to purchase and activate bikes within BCycle’s 50 station network will make it easier than ever for transit users to make complete trips and expand their use of alternative modes. 

Overall, the integrated transit application is designed to make shared mobility services more accessible by offering people in the San Antonio area more seamless and convenient connections throughout the wider transportation network.
