Washington, DC’s Metro has issued a request for proposals to create a public-private partnership with an app based transportation system to help lower the cost of paratransit service. In the proposal, Metro says it will subsidize rides up to $15 as well as pay for the $12 surcharge that are tacked on to trips that require wheelchair-accessible vehicles. Additionally, the operator(s) eventually selected will be required to allow users to order rides via phone, as opposed to solely by mobile app.
