WeGo Public Transit is partnering with Bird to enhance e-scooter parking at a select range of bus stops. Using ridership and traffic, Bird is placing new scooters and docks near stops at the Gallatin Pike, Murfreesboro Pike, and Nolensville Pike. These streets are major thoroughfares for car traffic. By providing a new level of scooters to transit users, WeGo and Bird hope that more transit customers use e-scooters in the first and last miles of their transportation journeys in place of cars. This partnership can also draw new customers to use the WeGo bus system.
Micromobility can play a handy role in the first and last miles of peoples’ transportation journeys. Many transit agencies are seeking partnerships with micromobility providers like Bird to improve peoples’ trips. Over time, it will be valuable to see how this partnership between WeGo and Bird evolves to include elements like payment integration or mobility hubs. Policymakers should also consider design improvements to Gallatin Pike, Murfreesboro Pike, and Nolensville Pike; infrastructure like protected bike lanes on car-heavy roads can encourage people to use e-scooters and bicycles.
