World Economic Forum report: Reshaping Urban Mobility with Autonomous Vehicles: Lessons from the City of Boston, 2018

In June 2018, the World Economic Forum – in collaboration with The Boston Consulting Group – published a detailed report regarding autonomous vehicles in the urban context, drawing upon lessons from the City of Boston. This report, Reshaping Urban Mobility with Autonomous Vehicles, features findings from the World Economic Forum’s Autonomous and Urban Mobility Working Group, as well as from an analysis conducted with the City of Boston.

Some of the report’s major takeaways include:

• Mobility-on-demand will grow to account for one-third of trips in Boston
• Mass-transit ridership will drop in urban areas
• AV adoption – the indication by those surveyed that they would ride in autonomous vehicles – will vary considerably across city neighborhoods
• Age and income are significant drivers of AV adoption
• The shorter the trip, the higher the AV adoption.
