STAR Transit Launches Mobility On-Demand Service, DeSoto, TX 2021

STAR Transit has launched STARNow, a demand-response transportation (DRT) service. Customers can use STARNow for shared point-to-point rides anywhere in the City of DeSotos’ boundaries. STARNow operates between 6 AM to 6 PM during the workweek. Customers can request rides in real-time or schedule ahead of time through the STARNow app or by calling a hotline. Spare Labs supports the STARNow app. Passengers requesting their rides in real-time can expect the microtransit vehicle to arrive within 15 to 20 minutes. Customers can request wheelchair-accessible vehicles and rides for multi-passenger parties.

For the entirety of December, STARNow rides are fare-free as a promotion. On January 3, standard STARNow fares will be $2, with discounts available to seniors, veterans, people with disabilities, and children under age 13. Single rides on STAR Transits’ fixed-route buses have a standard fare of $1. STARNow is replacing STARTransit’s Route 501, which ceased operations on December 1. STAR Transit believes that it can serve its customers in DeSoto more effectively and efficiently with DRT.
