Motional and Via Partner to Provide Robotaxi Service in Las Vegas, NV 2022

Motional, an autonomous vehicle (AV) company, and Via, a booking and routing technology vendor, are partnering to offer a fare-free robotaxi service throughout downtown Las Vegas. Customers can use Via’s app to request rides to and from anywhere within an area of about 2 square miles. Up to two passengers in the same party can ride in these AVs simultaneously through this service. Destinations in the service area include various hotels and casinos, the RTC Bonneville Transit Center, the Clark County Government Center, and the Arts District. This AV service is available from 9 AM to 5 PM during the workweek.

This partnership is part of a more significant trend where AV companies test how their vehicles operate in certain areas. As a novel technology, AVs have the potential to improve vehicular and road safety and provide new opportunities to expand shared mobility in communities.
