Bublr, a non-profit bikeshare system, has announced an expansion to its fleet. At the end of April 2022, Bublr began introducing about 400 electric-assist bicycles to its system. These bicycles can operate at a maximum speed of 15 miles per hour. Customers can borrow any of Bublrs’ electric or non-electric bikes at $0.25 per minute for a single ride or with a $100 annual membership that allows for unlimited rides. Certain low-income individuals can also use Bublr at no out-of-pocket cost. Bublr will also install 26 new docking stations across Milwaukees’ northwest and southwest sides, expanding the geographic reach of the bikeshare program.
Bublr is supporting this expansion with a combination of federal grants and local philanthropic dollars. Customers can also ride Bublrs’ vehicles in the nearby communities of Wauwatosa and West Allis. With this e-bike expansion, customers can more easily navigate difficult terrain in Milwaukee and potentially use bikeshare for longer-range trips. E-bikes can introduce a new level of accessibility and practicality to bikeshare systems.
