5 minutes Date Launched: Jun 16, 2022 Pilot Project Timeframe: 9 months
Pacoima Beautiful, an environmental justice non-profit, has launched an e-bike library in the Pacoima neighborhood of Los Angeles. The e-bike library, called Electro-Bici, provides users with a fleet of 100 battery-powered vehicles that can operate up to 20 miles per hour. Pacoima Beautiful trains permitted users of the Electro-Bici through three training sessions over three weeks; the initial training cohort had 20 participants. Participants also receive free helmets and bicycle locks.
Key partners in the Electro-Bici pilot include Shared Mobility Inc., Equiticity, Mobility Development, and People for Mobility Justice. Pacoima Beautiful supports Electro-Bici with a $500,000 grant from the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP). Initiatives like Electro-Bici can demonstrate the value of community-supported and neighborhood-based shared mobility programs. Hopefully, programs like this will become a more permanent fixture in neighborhoods in Los Angeles and across the United States.
