ABQ Ride, the transit agency serving Albuquerque, NM, added five new electric buses to its fleet through a partnership with the Center for Transportation and the Environment. ABQ Ride currently has 160 low-emission vehicles in operation following an initiative beginning in 2019, but the new buses are the first fully electric buses in the fleet. This addition follows the city’s plan to transition its fleet to low-emission vehicles, and further its goal of a 100% electric fleet by 2040.
Two of the buses are wrapped with artwork submitted in a 2021 contest for Albuquerque children to promote environmental consciousness.
Fleet electrification can help agencies combat the climate crisis, help save fuel costs in light of rising gas prices, and make for smoother and more comfortable journeys for customers. ABQ Rides’ electric buses mark a step forward in more environmentally sustainable public transportation in the region.
