5 minutes Date Launched: Oct 20, 2022 Pilot Project Timeframe: 1 year
Community Transit is launching the Zip Alderwood Shuttle, a microtransit program serving the Alderwood neighborhood of Lynnwood near Seattle, Washington. Customers can request shared point-to-point rides across Alderwood from the Zip Alderwood Shuttle by mobile app supported by GOIN’, or through the phone. Customers can expect a shuttle to pick them up within 10 to 15 minutes of their request. The microtransit service operates from 5 AM to 10 PM on all days except some holidays. Rides have a standard cost of $2.50 per ride, the same fare as Community Transit’s local fixed-route bus system. Fares can be paid with a debit or credit card, cash, or an ORCA card. All Zip vehicles are wheelchair accessible and can seat up to seven passengers.
This effort is the first in Community Transit’s Innovative Services program, in which the agency will test new mobility services across smaller jurisdictions. Community Transit is piloting microtransit in Alderwood because of its growing population, access to amenities, and proximity to a new Link light rail station and other public transportation. Microtransit can help residents and visitors more readily access services and transfer to different modes of public transit in suburban communities.
