5 minutes Date Launched: Feb 6, 2023
The Cache Valley Transit District (CVTD) has launched POOL, a fare-free microtransit service serving the communities of Providence, Millville, River Heights, Cliffside, and parts of Logan. With this microtransit service, customers can request shared rides to and from various existing and virtual bus stops across the service area. Customers can book rides at least 20 minutes before using the POOL app or by phone. Ecolane serves as the booking and routing vendor for this microtransit service. CVTD has set aside a fleet of two passenger vans for POOL. These wheelchair-accessible vans, equipped with bike racks, can carry up to seven passengers at a time and are expected to complete 50 to 80 trips per day. CVTD POOL operates from 6:15 AM to 8:45 PM during the work week and from 9:45 AM to 6:30 PM on Saturdays.
CVTD has launched POOL to replace part of one fixed-bus route and all of three other bus routes. Often, microtransit functions as a replacement for fixed-route transit when ridership is low. Depending on how POOL works in this service area, CVTD will consider adding more vans to the microtransit fleet and expanding service to other communities in its service area.
