5 minutes Date Launched: Mar 31, 2023 Pilot Project Timeframe: 1 year
The City of Eugene is permitting a one-year electric scooter pilot in partnership with Superpedestrian and Cascadia Mobility. Superpedestrian is providing the fleet of scooters, while Cascadia Mobility, a local non-profit organization, is operating and administering the program. Upon launching, about 200 e-scooters are available to members of the community. Over time, the fleet of vehicles will increase to about 600. In Eugene’s downtown area and at the University of Oregon, users must park the e-scooters in designated areas. Customers receive a $1 rebate outside these areas if they park their scooters in parking hubs. To end a ride, customers must take and submit a photo of their parked scooter inside a smartphone app.
Superpedestrian is Eugene’s only permitted shared e-scooter vendor during the pilot period. During the pilot, the City of Eugene seeks to evaluate how scooters serve students at the University of Oregon and the broader community and whether e-scooters are a viable mobility solution for residents and visitors. E-scooters are increasingly popular in college campuses and towns and can be helpful for short trips.
