A part of the Transportation Sustainability Program, the Transportation Sustainability Fee would raise new revenue to expand the transportation system as San Francisco grows. Developers would be charged the fee based on the number of housing units. Example uses of the fees include: subsidized transit passes, subsidized bikeshare and carshare memberships, increased bicycle parking, reduced on-site parking, and private shuttle or van pool service.
The Transportation Sustainability Program is a joint effort between the San Francisco Planning Department, the San Francisco County Transportation Authority, the Office of Economic and Workforce Development, and the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency.
