Customers of Brightline, a Florida-based intercity train service, can now book private or shared Uber rides to and from their train trips on Brightline’s platform. This partnership is an expansion of Brightline+, the train service’s first-/last-mile program. Brightline+ currently also offers rides on airport shuttles, event shuttles, and electric golf carts across its cities of service. Through the new partnership with Uber, customers can book rides to or from their train trips when purchasing their tickets, either through Brightline’s website or mobile app. Customers using Brightline’s first-class option can book Uber rides at no extra cost if their ride is within a five-mile radius of the train station. Customers purchasing coach class tickets pay an additional fee for their Uber rides.
Brightline’s partnership with Uber replaces a previous offering in Brightline+ where customers could book ridehails in Brightline-branded Teslas for their train trips. This new partnership allows Brightline to offer customers a similar first-/last-mile service while expanding the fleet available to customers due to Uber’s prominent presence in the ridehail market. Brightline+ is an effort for Brightline to brand itself as a whole trip provider for train customers through integrating the ability to book trips with other shared mobility services. Brightline reports that about one-third of its customers use Brightline+ as well. Brightline+ demonstrates how offering shared mobility options on a single platform can encourage customers to forego using single-occupancy vehicles to and from their train trips.
