The City of Tampa, FL has launched a Mobility as a Service (MaaS) pilot in partnership with mobility company, Moovit. The pilot has started with the launch of the Moovit app in the area, and integrating the app with the Hillsborough Area Rapid Transit (HART) for mobile ticketing. Travelers can use the Moovit app to plan multimodal trips throughout the city, see real-time trip information, and access payment options. While the app is available to anyone during the pilot, the City of Tampa’s Mobility Department is seeking 200 participants to answer several surveys over the course of the six-month pilot period, which will help assess the MaaS program and the app’s functionality.
Transit agencies throughout the country are exploring new technology to improve rider experience and make multimodal transportation easier and more seamless. MaaS platforms can facilitate convenient access to multiple modes and induce a shift away from personal cars. Tampa hopes to use the insights from this pilot for the improvement and advancement of MaaS technology on a global scale.
