5 minutes Date Launched: Apr 1, 2023
Muskogee Parks and Recreation Department has launched MuskogeE-Bike, an electric bikeshare system. Users can access a fleet of seven electric pedal-assist bicycles at a central location in Muskogee. The bicycles, which operate at a maximum speed of 17 miles per hour, must be returned to that exact location for a rental to end. Rentals for MuskogeE-Bike cost $1 plus $0.15 per minute. Drop Mobility serves as the operations vendor for MuskogeE-Bike. The Saint Francis Health System sponsors MuskogeE-Bike, with additional support from Neighbors Building Neighborhoods, a nonprofit organization.
The City of Muskogee started this bikeshare program as part of the Muskogee Wellness Initiative, a public health effort that works toward the goals of the Oklahoma Health Improvement Plan. Bikeshare programs often serve as part of a citys’ efforts to bolster active transportation choices. While MuskogeE-Bike is a small program, it can encourage users to bike more routinely and promote the broader use of cycling.
