Federal Automated Vehicles Policy, United States, 2016

The Department of Transportation issued a policy guidebook in an effort to speed the delivery of initial regulation and best practices for automated vehicles.  As such, it is intended to help guide manufacturers in safety and design, testing, and deployment of automated vehicles.  The policy guidebook is divided into four sections: 

• Vehicle Performance Guidance for Automated Vehicles
• Model State Policy
• National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Current Regulatory Tools
• New Tools and Authorities
