CityBus in Lafayette has launched a new on-demand bus service called CityBus Flex. On this service, customers can request point-to-point shared rides in the Overlook Pointe and Wabash Avenue areas in the southside of Lafayette or to the CityBus Center. Rides can be requested in real time through an app, supported by Via, or by phone. CityBus Flex is available to customers from Monday to Friday of each week. Rides are fare-free from August 23 to September 3, 2021. After this promotional period, CityBus Flex riders can pay their fares on board with cash or through the Token Transit app.
CityBus (aka. The Greater Lafayette Public Transportation Corporation) started this mobility on-demand service to attend to gaps in transit service in an underserved area of Lafayette. Residents often have to walk longer distances to access buses in these areas, often without sidewalks. In this instance, microtransit can be a valuable asset to customers who lack access to certain amenities.
