To encourage residents to limit personal automobile use and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the State of Vermont along with the Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) established an incentive program for e-bike purchases. Through this program, qualified Vermont residents can receive rebates when they purchase a new e-bike. Rebate amounts are tiered, based on income and tax status, and are good for up to 50% of a bike’s purchase price, up to $400. VTrans has $100,000 available for the program, obtainable to purchasers at a first-come, first-served basis.
With the transportation sector causing roughly 27% of the country’s carbon emissions, incentive programs like these, which encourage people to opt for more sustainable forms of mobility, are a key piece of building more environmentally friendly communities.
