In March 2019, the University of Oregon’s Urbanism Next Center released a report that highlights global efforts to improve curb management in response to the changing demand for public right-of-way access. It explores ways cities can prepare for the deployment of autonomous vehicles, and improve curb management given current conditions. The report draws from takeaways gleaned from a day-long workshop involving city staff from Portland, Seattle, and Vancouver.
The project grew out of a partnership between the Carbon Neutral Cities Alliance at the Urban Sustainability Directors Network (CNCA/USDN) and the Cities of Portland, Seattle, and Vancouver.
