The Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) is launching DRIVE, an electric carshare program. When fully developed, customers can borrow electric 2020 Chevy Bolt vehicles at the cost of $5 per hour, $40 per day during the workweek, and $45 per day during the weekend. Customers are allowed to drive up to 150 miles when borrowing a vehicle. If customers exceed that limit, they are charged an extra $0.35 per mile above 150 miles. Additional costs include a one-time $20 application fee. Customers can submit membership applications through a smartphone app and must be 21 years or older.
CDTA has partnered with Mobility Development to implement this transportation program. DRIVE is a shared mobility offering alongside other CDTA mobility programs, including fixed-route transit, microtransit, bikeshare, and scootershare. Developments like this re-frame the role of transit agencies as providers of shared mobility more broadly.
