Rock Region METRO announced the launch of METRO Connect Conway, an on-demand service offering point-to-point trips within the city and an accessible user interface for booking rides. This microtransit service is the first modern public transportation service in the City of Conway and will kick off starting October 24th.
The service will run Monday through Saturday from 6 AM to 8 PM operating in a designated zone that covers almost all areas within Conway city limits. The zone was established using data analysis results and input from various stakeholders, including city staff and representatives working in the health, education, workforce, and social service sectors.
Two wheelchair-accessible vehicles will continually operate within the city limits during service hours. Users can book trips by calling in or through the Transloc app, a user-friendly interface offering real-time information to travelers. The cost for using Metro Connect Conway is $2 per person per trip and can be paid using the Token Transit app or exact change.
Over the past few years, the City of Conway has seen growth in its population, leading to its emergence as an Urbanized Area designated by the US Census Bureau. This change in a statute not only made the city available for federal public transit funding but also catalyzed new partnerships that would allow Conway the opportunity to launch this new mobility service. This microtransit service, which is well-suited to operate in areas with emerging transit demand, offers more coverage than traditional fixed-route services, is more responsive than traditional dial-a-ride services, and brings forth predictable fares, unlike TNC-based ridehailing services.
